Welcome To Karnataka State Open University (KSOU)

        The Karnataka State Open University established on 1st June 1996 vide Karnataka Govt. Notification No. ED 1 UOV 95 dated 12th February 1996 - KSOU Act 1992 is considered to be a reputed Open University amongst the open learning institutions in the country. Keeping in view the educational needs of our country, in general, and state in particular the policies and programmes have been geared to cater to the needy.

Karnataka State Open University is a recognised University of Distance Education Council (DEC), New Delhi, regular member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Delhi, permanent member of Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), London, UK, Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU), Beijing, China, and also has association with Commonwealth of Learning (COL).

Karnataka State Open University is situated at the North–Western end of the Manasagangotri campus, Mysore. The campus, which is about 5 Kms, from the city centre, has a serene atmosphere ideally suited for academic pursuits. The University houses at present the Administrative Office, Academic Block, Lecture Halls, a well-equipped Library, Guest House Cottages, a Moderate Canteen, Girls Hostel and a few cottages providing limited accommodation to students coming to Mysore for attending the Contact Programmes or Term-end examinations.

Special Features

Philosophy and instructional System in Distance Education

Self Learning Material (SLM): The Study Materials are prepared in self learning format. The SLMs are different from the text books. As per guidelines of DEC, New Delhi, The Programs are divided into a Course and the Course is subdivided into Blocks. Each Block has 3 to 5 Units and each Block covers 1 credit which is equivalent to 30 hrs. of study by a student comprising all activities i.e.; Reading and Theory Counseling.

The University has its own network of Program Study Centers all over India. For the convenience of learners the Program Study Centers will provide Theory Counseling and Library facilities to the learners.

Practical & Training Work

University has its own set up of Work Centers all over India, which are attached to the Program Study Centers as per requirement of the learners. The Work Center will provide Practical Counseling to the learners.

Evaluation Procedure:

    Evaluation for each course covers two aspects
    Internal assessment (IA) through assignments with a weightage of 10%
    Term-end examination having a weight age of 90%
    Each Paper will be of 100 Marks. (For practical papers - Theory 75%, Practical 15% Assignments10%.
    For Theory papers-Assignment10%,Theory90%.)
    Minimum for pass in each course is 35%

Assignment:

Students are required to submit assignments according to the prescribed schedule before the term-end examination. In case, the student has not submitted the assignment within the prescribed date, the result of such candidate will be declared on the basis of the theory marks only.

Credit Transfer / Paper Exemption

Credit Transfer for Bridge Course : The Students can transfer the marks scored in 10th Std/ SSLC/ Equivalent to the maximum of two subjects. Even if one passed in 4 subjects only two subjects' marks can be transferred as credit. In this case the student will appear for examination only for 3 subjects and on successful completion of the course the consolidated marks sheet will be given for all the 5 subjects. The original Certificate (Mark Sheet) along with attested photocopy to be attached along with the application.

Credit Transfe for Degree Bridge Course – 1 : The Students can transfer the marks scored in 11h Std/ PUC1/ Equivalent to the maximum of two subjects. Even if passed in 4 or 5 subjects only two subjects marks can be transferred as credit. In this case the student will appear for examination only for 4 subjects and on successful completion of the course the consolidated mark sheet will be given for all the 6 subjects. The original Certificate (Mark Sheet) along with attested photo copy to be attached along with the application.

Credit Transfer for Degree Bridge Course – 2 : The Students can transfer the marks scored in 12h Std/ PUC 2/ Equivalent to the maximum of two subjects. Even if passed in 4 or S subjects only two subjects' marks can be transferred as credit. In this case the student will appear for examination only for 4 subjects and on successful completion of the course the consolidated mark sheet will be given for all the 6 subjects. The original Certificate (Mark Sheet) along with attested photo copy to be attached along with the application.

Note:

The credit transfer is possible if the subjects passed are similar to the subjects mentioned or chosen to enroll.

The decision to transfer credit lies solely lies with KSOU and no such claim on any point of time will be entertained. The student will pay the entire fee and no fee concession will be given.
